7/2/2008: Jason Henke's Site Design Notes
Please note: I mean for this page to simply be a test for the frame work of the www.jasonhenke.com website. This is not the final look in any way—it's a test bed for CSS, layout, and such.
So far, this is a fairly standard one column design, but I've got the footer to always stick to the bottom of the page. That's actually a trickier thing to pull off in CSS than it should be.
This main look—the one column bit—is pretty run of the mill, I'd like the new layout to be Flash/Flex based and have it be more flowing and to be much more of a multimedia site. I have a very specific goal in mind for Jason Henke's site right now. The danger in doing the Flash/Flex design though is that it's plug in based so I'll have to have a HTML only version for the anti-plugin crowd.
I'm also thinking that I'll not have the www.jasonhenke.com screen real estate take up 100% of the height, but 90% of the width. I'll be aiming to hit the HD widescreen screen proportions (think letterbox almost) that are more rectangular. I want it all, the art included, to have more of a flowing nature to it and for it to have some ethereal "texture" and ambiance.
As of today, this one column framework is performing as expected as is the CSS.
I'm now working on some mock ups for the art ideas. I've been vacillating between two styles. I'm not sold on either yet, but there you have it. One is definitely more personal based, the other more artistic.
I'm going for an uncluttered look on the whole and speed of comprehension. I hate link heavy, pocket heavy layouts. Too much noise for the users. Mostly, I really need texture and layout art right now.
